When looking for a tool to integrate SAP and Primavera, users usually focus on functionality. Unless they strictly demand the demonstration of specific business scenarios, the typical answer they get from vendors is "yes, we can do that". Of course they can do it - everything can be programmed, it is all zeros and ones!

It then becomes a question of ease-of-use, out-of-the-box functionality that is supported as standard functionality, and implementation time and support. Here now comes the point: All of this can be greatly impacted by the technologies and platforms used by the vendor. As it is wrong to look at SAP-Primavera integration as a pure technical challenge (it shouldn't be for a vendor of such integration solutions!), it is also risky to not consider such technological aspects.

A look at some of the most frequently asked questions shows what this means.

4. What do you know about Primavera?

Let's not assume that a vendor is an expert in Primavera. One may be surprised, particularly when looking at the interface as a mainly technical issue. Often internal IT departments who get concerned about "throwing good money after bad money" have the tendency to look at the integration issue from that side. Some EAI vendors are the same, and companies (mainly service organizations) that have worked with SAP for many years - but not with Primavera.

This question has two dimensions. First, how extensively have you worked with the Primavera Java API? Second, how well do you know how to map fields and processes in Primavera with SAP?
