'Nobody's perfect' - not even SAP! While it is true that its inherent functionality is a definite match for even the most powerful standalone and best-of-breed project management systems, there is more than functionality that counts.
Often Primavera is pointed out as the project management system that is more powerful than any other on the market. When you get down to it, though, it is not functionality that builds the case for using Primavera and SAP together (see more about SAP-Primavera integration here). It is usability, and the multi-layer nature of complex enterprise projects. Using two tools at the same time for related and integrated business functions obviously has its own complexities. The challenge of integrating these tools can be so big process-wise that end-users really don't want to have to care about middleware solutions that add another dimension to the problem (like installing databases or new tools and learning new programming languages or meta data descriptions). In reality, nobody wants to have to deal with a synchronization tool. It is like referees in a game, necessary to keep the game flowing but doing the best job if they are hardly noticed. |
