SAP-Centric Projects

In Charge and In Control

Two Sides of the Same Coin: Capital Projects - ENC Projects

Managing capital projects is indeed the same as managing ENC projects. The main difference is the viewpoint of the party that actually manages a capital project, whether it is the owner or a contractor doing that job. The big picture and the detailed tasks at hand are the same. The overall project management process can therefore not be optimized unless both perspectives are taken into consideration.

Scenarios for managing capital projects with SAP and Primavera depend among other things on how the following questions are answered:

  • Who owns the SAP system - the product owner or the ENC company?
  • Will SAP-centric maintenance tasks commence before the asset has been completed?

6. How open is your technology?

It is so easy to say "yes" and "we are open" - but what does that mean? You may want to get more specific and try to find out what that really means.

Are you using any proprietary technology that is not open? Do you support all Java/J2EE compliant web application servers (like WebLogic, WebSphere, Tomcat, NetWeaver)? Can you please name all programming languages you used to build your application?

Questions like these should flush out your real support needs, risk and potential vendor dependency.
