Project-Specific Functionality of SAP Modules

While SAP has the "Project System" (PS) module for project management, true enterprises cannot simply "implement the PS module". The reality is much more complex than that, mainly because SAP is such an integrated system. Processes need to consider other modules. In general a good understanding is necessary of how functionality of the following modules pertains to effective enterprise projects:

Please keep in mind that not all of these modules may be involved with enterprise projects in all circumstances. It depends on the individual process whether they apply or not. For example, PM is only needed if you manage maintenance activities using SAP, and SD not beyond make-to-order (or 'sales driven') projects.

Do you know...?
What is the difference between SAP PS and PM?

The SAP world makes an important distinction between "PS" and "PM". The acronym "PM" is a source of frequent confusion. For many project management professionals it simply stands for "Project Management", while in the SAP community it is the abbreviation for the "Plant Maintenance" module of SAP.

The SAP PM module was not designed as a project management module. It still contains a lot of components very similar to the SAP PS module, which is the project management module called "Project System". SAP define their modules by function more so than by the process they cover.
